June 2008 -Thanks to Anuj Pathania for redesigning all of the icons for the (finally) updated website. |
August 2004 -With heavy hearts and light bank balances, we regretfully say 'adeiu' to Africa. |
July 2004 - We zip along the over-priced, over-advertised 'Garden Route'. Table Mountain is not too far away. |
June 2004 - Pondo fever holds us temporarily in the TransKei. Dolphins and whales check each day to see if we are still in South Africa. |
May 2004 - One of our last off-road adventures. Along the unspoilt 'Wild Coast' in the TransKei. Some South Africans think that we are insane. |
April 2004 - Port Edward, and we get hypnotized by a sub-culture not regularly associated with South Africa. |
March 2004 - Durban, South Africa. Major repairs for us and our steeds. |
February 2004 - Toy town tourist traps greet our arrival in South Africa. |
January 2004 - Christmas and New Year are forgotten in Maputo, Mozambique, after which we cycle into Swaziland. After dancing with the king, we bid farewell to peaceful Swaziland and make for rumour riddled South Africa. |
December 2003 - Leah's second travelling birthday is spent by the Indian Ocean, at the white sand idyll of Tofo, Mozambique. |
November 2003 - We leave Malawi, and cross the furnace that is the 'Tete' corridor into Mozambique. |
October 2003 - Simon's second travelling birthday is spent relaxing by the lake. It is soon followed by a vicious bout of malaria that Malawi is renowned for. |
September 2003 - Malawi beckons, and with it the promise of better roads and a chance to relax along its lakeshore. |
August 2003 - Another memorable boat, this time the MV Liemba the length of Lake Tangynika into the seldom visited South West corner of Tanzania.
July 2003 - After crossing the lake in a canoe, we leave the idyllic Ssese Islands and skirt the edge of Lake Victoria into Tanzania.
June 2003 - We cross the deserts in the North of Kenya by truck, and are suddenly surrounded by tea, trees and friendly people. Tea pickers and rice fields are replaced by sugar plantations as we pass into Uganda.
May 2003 - We decide to leave Ethiopia as soon as possible, and look for transport into Kenya.
April 2003 - The stonings and abuse we suffer at Ethiopian hands are a daily occurrence. We both feel as if we are losing our sanity.
March 2003 - All of the beaurocracy and headaches have been worthwhile, and we reluctantly leave friendly Sudan, and cross the bridge into Ethiopia.
February 2003 - After losing two days, tens of dollars and handfuls of hair, we are granted our Sudan visa extensions.
January 2003 - We board the filthiest, most un-seaworthy vessel either of us have ever seen, and set sail from Egypt to Sudan.
December 2002 - We give up on waiting in Tunisia, and fly to Egypt, where we are finally granted our Sudanese visas.
November 2002 - We wait in Tunisia for our Sudanese visas. They never appear.
October 2002 - After sampling the beaches of Corsica we leave on the ferry to Sardinia. After spending far too much money in Sardinia we scoot over to Sicily, to stock up in the street markets of Palermo and catch the ferry from Trapani to Tunisia.
September 2002 - After crossing France we catch the ferry to Corsica.
August 2002 - We finally leave the UK and head for France.
July 2002 - ICP Global Technologies generously donate an iSun solar charger to help keep our batteries charged. The Guardian newspaper write to inform us that they would be happy to consider one-off travel pieces for publication.
April 2002 - The site goes live. Cheers to Rahid for chat room wizardry. Many thanks to Garrett for imagery, icons and patience. Start to have our jabs (ouch).
